Sanctions target Pakistan’s National Development Complex and three private firms for contributing to missile proliferation threats.
Washington DC [US], December 19: The United States has imposed sanctions on four entities linked to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program, citing their involvement in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and associated delivery systems. The move was announced by State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, highlighting ongoing US concerns over missile proliferation activities.
In a post on X, Miller stated,
“Today, the United States is designating four entities that are contributing to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program. We have been clear and consistent about our concerns, and we will continue to engage constructively with Pakistan on these issues.”
Sanctioned Entities
According to a statement from the State Department, the sanctioned entities include:
- Pakistan’s National Development Complex (NDC): Responsible for the development of Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missiles, including the Shaheen-series, the NDC has worked to procure special vehicle chassis, launch support equipment, and missile testing apparatus.
- Akhtar and Sons Private Limited: Based in Karachi, this firm has supplied equipment for Pakistan’s missile program on behalf of NDC.
- Affiliates International: Also located in Karachi, this company facilitated the procurement of missile-applicable items for NDC.
- Rockside Enterprise: Another Karachi-based firm that has supported the NDC with equipment for the long-range missile program.
Executive Order 13382
The sanctions were imposed under Executive Order (E.O.) 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery mechanisms. These entities have been accused of engaging in activities that materially contribute to the proliferation of ballistic missile technology, including development, acquisition, and transportation of related components.
US Commitment Against Proliferation
The State Department emphasized its continued vigilance against missile proliferation, with the statement concluding:
“The United States will continue to act against proliferation and associated procurement activities of concern.”
The announcement is part of ongoing US efforts to address global proliferation threats while engaging with Pakistan on these sensitive issues.
