According to a US State Department spokesperson, Rubio urged General Munir to pursue de-escalation and restraint, while also offering Washington’s assistance in facilitating “constructive talks” between the two South Asian nuclear powers.
“Secretary Rubio emphasized the urgent need to reduce tensions and avoid further conflict. He reiterated the United States’ willingness to assist in facilitating dialogue aimed at preventing future confrontations,” the spokesperson said.
The outreach comes in the backdrop of India’s Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, and subsequent drone and missile exchanges.
While Washington has not publicly taken sides, diplomatic sources indicate deep concern in the US over the potential for rapid escalation in a volatile region.
