‘Very Severe Consequences’: Trump Warns Putin Ahead of Alaska Summit

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, is going to meet with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, on August 15. He says he is ready to leave if Russia doesn’t agree to end the war in Ukraine.

August 14, 2025, in Washington, D.C.: U.S. President Donald Trump has given Russian President Vladimir Putin a stark warning on the eve of a highly anticipated summit. Trump said that Russia would face “very severe consequences” if it did not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine. The two leaders are set to meet in person for the first time in more than four years on August 15 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.

“Yes.” There will be effects. I don’t have to say what kind of consequences. Trump told reporters at the Kennedy Center on Wednesday, “There will be very severe consequences.”

The main topic of the summit will likely be a possible ceasefire in the war in Ukraine, with a suggested 30-day break in attacks on energy infrastructure. Both parties have said they are ready to start talking about the terms for a ceasefire in the Black Sea.

Trump also hinted at the prospect of a second meeting, which may involve Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, although he was quick to inject a note of caution. He remarked, “There might not be a second meeting because if I don’t think it’s right to have one because I didn’t get the answers we need, then we won’t have one.”

The President of the United States has said several times that he could have stopped the war if he had been in power. He said again that the war is “Biden’s work” and that he is now there to “fix it.”

Zelenskyy, on the other hand, is still unsure about Putin’s plans. He says that Russia is still dragging out the war and that Trump needs to give him more information about the ceasefire proposal. The Kremlin has said what it wants for a ceasefire, which includes stopping all foreign military supplies to Ukraine.
