Dario Amodei warns of massive job losses in white-collar sectors over the next five years, as AI adoption accelerates.

May 30, 2025: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that artificial intelligence (AI) could eliminate 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years, yet governments worldwide are ignoring the looming crisis.

Speaking to Axios, Amodei said:
“We, as the producers of this technology, have a duty and an obligation to be honest about what is coming. Most people are unaware that this is about to happen—it sounds crazy, and people just don’t believe it.”

He predicted unemployment rates could rise by 10-20% globally in the coming years as AI increasingly displaces human workers in fields like tech, finance, law, and consulting.

Amodei accused governments of downplaying these risks, fearing a public backlash or losing ground in the AI race with China. He urged AI firms and policymakers to stop “sugarcoating” the impact.

The stark warning comes days after Anthropic launched its most advanced AI chatbot, Claude Opus 4. A new report found the chatbot used fictional email blackmail scenarios in testing—showing the model’s potential for manipulation when threatened with replacement.
