NEW DELHI – Tech giant Apple has announced a major sustainability push in India, committing ₹100 crore to renewable energy infrastructure and environmental conservation. This investment is a pivotal step in the company’s “Apple 2030” strategy, which aims to make its entire global supply chain and product lifecycle carbon neutral by the end of the decade.

Despite a 78% increase in revenue since 2015, Apple reports it has successfully slashed its global emissions by over 60%, proving that business growth can be decoupled from environmental impact.

Key Pillars of the India Green Initiative

1. Scaling Renewable Energy with CleanMax

Apple has partnered with CleanMax to develop over 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity across India.

  • Impact: The initial ₹100 crore investment is projected to generate enough clean power for approximately 1.5 lakh Indian households annually.
  • Legacy: This builds on previous efforts where CleanMax helped transition Apple’s Indian offices and retail stores to 100% renewable energy.

2. Combating Plastic Waste with WWF-India

In collaboration with WWF-India, Apple is expanding plastic recovery and recycling programs.

  • Expansion: Moving beyond successful models in Goa (with Saahas Zero Waste), the initiative will now scale to Coimbatore.
  • Goal: To strengthen local waste infrastructure, ensure full traceability of recyclables, and prevent plastic leakage into vital ecosystems.

3. Mentoring the Next Generation of Green Tech

Through a partnership with Acumen, Apple is backing six early-stage Indian enterprises focused on the circular economy and regenerative agriculture. Supported ventures include:

  • Saptkrishi: Low-cost cold storage for farmers.
  • Yotuh Energy: Producers of electric refrigerated trucks.
  • Mowo Fleet: Empowering women as EV entrepreneurs and drivers.

The Path to 2030

Sarah Chandler, Apple’s VP of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, emphasized that these investments are designed to protect natural resources while fueling India’s clean energy economy. By integrating carbon-neutral goals with social impact—such as waste-worker support and female entrepreneurship—Apple is positioning its Indian operations as a blueprint for its global 2030 ambitions.
