Fuel prices across India have increased once again on May 19, as oil marketing companies revised petrol and diesel rates for the second time within a week. The latest hike comes amid rising global crude oil prices driven by ongoing tensions in West Asia and the Iran-US conflict.

India, which imports nearly 85–90 per cent of its crude oil requirements, continues to face pressure from volatile international energy markets. Higher crude prices are also putting strain on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

Petrol Prices in Major Cities

Hyderabad recorded the highest petrol price among major Indian cities at ₹111.84 per litre, followed closely by Thiruvananthapuram at ₹111.70 per litre. Mumbai petrol prices stood at ₹109.70 per litre, while Delhi saw petrol retailing at ₹98.64 per litre.

Other cities including Kolkata, Jaipur and Patna also reported petrol prices above ₹108 per litre. Chandigarh remained the cheapest among the listed cities with petrol priced at ₹98.10 per litre.

Diesel Prices Also Rise

Diesel prices witnessed a similar increase, with Thiruvananthapuram reporting the highest rate at ₹100.59 per litre, followed by Hyderabad at ₹99.95 per litre.

In Delhi, diesel was priced at ₹90.67 per litre, while Mumbai recorded ₹93.14 per litre. Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata also saw diesel prices remain elevated above ₹95 per litre.

CNG Rates Continue to Stay High

CNG prices also remained elevated across major cities. Hyderabad recorded one of the highest rates at ₹97 per kg, while New Delhi saw CNG priced at ₹77.09 per kg.

Cities such as Bengaluru, Jaipur, Chennai and Kolkata continued to witness CNG rates above ₹90 per kg.

Why Fuel Prices Are Rising

The latest increase follows a ₹3 per litre hike announced earlier this month. According to reports, rising geopolitical tensions and fears of crude oil supply disruptions have pushed global energy prices higher.

Under the revised taxation structure introduced earlier this year, fuel prices are now more sensitive to fluctuations in global crude rates and currency movements. Oil marketing companies revise prices daily at 6 AM based on these factors.
