A resurfaced video by YouTuber Brett Cooper has reignited discussions on how celebrities responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. In her critique, Cooper targeted actors, including Priyanka Chopra, for their perceived tone-deaf gestures during lockdowns. However, the internet had mixed reactions—while some agreed, many Reddit users came to Priyanka’s defense.

Brett Cooper’s Criticism: “What Did You Think This Would Do?”
The YouTube clip featured Priyanka’s 2020 janta curfew moment, where she clapped from her Los Angeles home to show support for healthcare workers and first responders. Cooper mocked the gesture, saying:
“This goes on for like 30 seconds! Theatre kids, like okay, I can say that because I am a theatre kid. What did you think this would do? People don’t need your applause from your Malibu mansion!”
Her commentary wasn’t limited to Priyanka—she also took aim at Gal Gadot, Chrissy Teigen, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna, accusing celebrities of failing to connect with real struggles.
Reddit Comes to Priyanka’s Defense
Despite the criticism, several Reddit users stood up for Priyanka, pointing out her efforts in sharing pandemic resources and providing relief. One user wrote:
“Priyanka was among the few Indian celebrities actively spreading information and helping people during COVID. The clapping wasn’t just an Indian thing—it happened in many countries.”
Another added:
“Why bring up her mansion? She earned her success through hard work. Is a rich person not allowed to appreciate first responders?”
Some also questioned Cooper’s political motivations, calling her hypocritical for dismissing pandemic responses while criticizing celebrities for supporting social movements like BLM.
Priyanka Chopra’s Upcoming Projects
Despite the online debate, Priyanka remains focused on work. She is set to return in Citadel Season 2 and is rumored to join SS Rajamouli’s next film, an Indiana Jones-style action adventure starring Mahesh Babu.
