The White Lotus star called out Saturday Night Live’s parody as “cheap” and “unfunny” after being mocked for her teeth in a skit that left her visibly emotional in public
April 15, 2025: The White Lotus actress Aimee Lou Wood was spotted in tears on the streets of London, days after voicing her disappointment over a Saturday Night Live (SNL) parody that mocked her character and appearance.
The SNL skit, titled The White Potus, spoofed the hit HBO series by replacing its vacation resort premise with a politically charged satire centered around Donald Trump. In the segment, Aimee’s character Chelsea was portrayed by Sarah Sherman with exaggerated features — notably large, fake teeth — and a strong accent, which many interpreted as a direct jab at Aimee’s own looks.

According to a report by TMZ, Aimee appeared “emotionally wrecked” while walking in London. She was photographed breaking down, visibly distressed, and being consoled by Ralph Davis, writer of Film Club and a close friend.
Aimee Responds: “Not Thin-Skinned, But It Was Mean”
Shortly after the sketch aired, Aimee addressed the parody via her Instagram stories.
“I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo. (Felt righteous, might delete later),” she wrote.
In a follow-up post, she expressed dismay over the tone of the sketch:
“Yes, take the piss — that’s what the show is about. But there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”
Aimee clarified that she holds no grudge against Sarah Sherman, who played the caricature, and revealed that SNL had issued an apology. However, she pointed out that her character in the skit was the only one being “punched down on.”
“I am not thin-skinned. I love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth.”
Industry Reacts
While fans and fellow actors came to Aimee’s defense online, some critics argued that the SNL parody crossed the line into personal mockery, especially targeting physical traits. The debate has sparked wider conversation about how far satire should go, especially when real-life insecurities are involved.
Aimee Lou Wood, who rose to fame with Sex Education, recently joined the third season of The White Lotus, earning praise for her layered performance — and now, empathy for enduring ridicule that many say missed the mark.
