Actor Alok Nath has been living a life away from the spotlight following the sexual harassment allegations made against him during the #MeToo movement in the Hindi film industry, according to his close friend and fellow actor Rajesh Puri. Once widely recognised for portraying ideal father figures on screen and earning the title of Bollywood’s “Sanskari Babuji,” the veteran actor has reportedly withdrawn from public life and no longer participates in the entertainment industry.
Speaking to Moneycontrol, Rajesh Puri said the allegations had a profound impact on Alok Nath, who has since distanced himself from colleagues and the film fraternity. He claimed the actor rarely steps out of his home and has almost disappeared from the industry. According to Puri, despite repeated invitations to visit his home or farmhouse, Alok usually declines, preferring to remain in isolation.
Puri further revealed that while Alok Nath occasionally speaks warmly over the phone, he has stopped accepting acting assignments and avoids public appearances. “He doesn’t want to face anyone,” Puri said, adding that the actor continues to carry the emotional weight of the controversy. He also expressed regret that an accomplished performer is no longer contributing to the industry.
Reflecting on the aftermath of the allegations, Puri remarked that Alok Nath regrets the events that unfolded and has chosen a quiet life. He shared that both of them follow the same spiritual guru, but even after taking spiritual guidance, Alok reportedly avoids attending satsangs or public gatherings, choosing instead to remain out of sight.
Puri also described Alok Nath as a “clean-hearted” person who has undergone significant personal changes over the years. He claimed the actor has given up alcohol, which he believed had been a major factor affecting his behaviour in the past. According to Puri, Alok often struggled to deal with emotional distress and would consume alcohol heavily.
While clarifying that he never personally witnessed Alok Nath misbehaving during outdoor film shoots, Puri alleged that alcohol would make the actor offensive and unpredictable. He said that after drinking, Alok would openly express suppressed emotions and frustrations, often reacting strongly to situations that had been troubling him.
Alok Nath faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct during India’s #MeToo movement in 2018, including accusations from writer-producer Vinta Nanda and other women. The allegations sparked widespread debate within the film industry, and the actor has largely remained away from the public eye ever since. He has consistently denied the allegations made against him.
