Singer-composer Amaal Mallik has reacted strongly to the shocking murder of Pune-based businessman Ketan Agarwal, sharing a lengthy note on social media in which he condemned the alleged crime and called for accountability in relationships. Referring to the ongoing investigation, the musician also urged people not to misuse laws intended to protect women while stressing that justice should be based on individual actions rather than gender.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Amaal began his post by acknowledging the challenges women have faced over generations and expressed support for their fight against oppression. However, he appealed to women to direct their anger only towards those responsible for abuse and discrimination, rather than generalising all men. He also emphasised the importance of taking responsibility in relationships instead of labelling every disagreement as “toxic.”
The singer went on to speak about modern relationships, saying that emotional honesty and accountability are more important than social media appearances or lavish lifestyles. He questioned whether extravagant weddings and luxurious honeymoons truly define love, urging couples to value genuine companionship over material expectations.
Expressing sympathy for the victim, Amaal described Ketan Agarwal as someone who appeared “pure” and genuinely happy about his upcoming marriage. In a follow-up post, he criticised the alleged actions of the accused, stating that the effort allegedly put into planning the crime could instead have been used to simply end the relationship honestly. According to Amaal, if someone no longer wished to continue a relationship, they should communicate openly with their partner and involve their families if necessary.
The singer also commented on India’s legal framework, saying that while laws have been strengthened to protect women, they should not be manipulated or misused. He argued that accountability should apply equally to everyone and described the alleged crime as an act that has devastated two families forever.
Amaal’s remarks come amid an ongoing police investigation into the murder of 26-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal. According to police allegations, Agarwal was killed during a trip to Lohagad Fort. Authorities have accused his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, of conspiring to murder him. The investigation remains underway, and the allegations are yet to be tested in court.
The singer’s comments have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with users debating accountability in relationships, the misuse of laws, and the importance of open communication over deception and violence.
