Almost a decade after her divorce from Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie has shared a rare and personal update about her love life.
While promoting her upcoming film Couture, the Oscar-winning actress revealed that she has not dated anyone since ending her marriage with Pitt. Instead, she said her main focus has been raising her children and caring for her family.
Jolie made the comments while discussing her character in Couture, where she plays Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker diagnosed with breast cancer who unexpectedly finds love.
Angelina Jolie Says Family Has Been Her Priority
Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, Jolie explained that romance has not been a part of her life since her divorce.
She said:
“To be candid, I haven’t dated since I divorced a decade ago. So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I’m focusing on my children, my family.”
However, she admitted that her outlook is beginning to change.
“So yes, things are changing, but in a way I didn’t expect. It doesn’t feel like I’m 51 and starting to think of being older. I’m thinking I have to live again. Be free again.”
Jolie added that the challenges of recent years have changed her. Even so, she now feels ready to reconnect with the person she once was.
“In a way that maybe life has broken me a little bit. I’ve come around to being a little bit more the person I used to be.”
Her Daughters Have Inspired a New Perspective
The actress also spoke about the important role her daughters have played in helping her see life differently.
According to Jolie, watching her daughters grow has made her think about the kind of lives she hopes they will lead. She wants them to value strength, kindness, confidence and courage.
At the same time, their encouragement has inspired her to rediscover parts of herself that she believes she had put aside over the years.
Jolie said her daughters want to see her not only as their mother but also as a woman with her own dreams, passions and identity.
