The excitement surrounding Emraan Hashmi’s return to one of his most beloved franchises is reaching a fever pitch. As the release of Awarapan 2 approaches on August 14, 2026, the industry is witnessing an intense distribution war. Major production houses and distribution giants are reportedly lining up at the Vishesh Films office, eager to secure the rights for what is being touted as one of the year’s biggest theatrical events.

The Industry Giants in Contention

According to industry insiders, the race to acquire the distribution rights has brought together the biggest names in Indian cinema. Zee Studios, Jio Studios, Cinepolis, and Anil Thadani’s AA Films are all in the mix. Interestingly, Dharma Productions, which has recently expanded its own distribution arm, has also expressed interest, alongside Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios. Producer Mukesh Bhatt is reportedly analyzing various offers and competitive bids to ensure the film gets the widest possible reach across domestic and international markets.

Reviving the Legend of Shivam Pandit

In this highly anticipated sequel, Emraan Hashmi reprises his iconic role as Shivam Pandit. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the film also stars Disha Patani in a lead role. While the first film ended on a note of finality for the protagonist, Hashmi previously revealed that a script developed in 2022 by his friend Bilal finally “cracked the code” on how to bring the character back in a way that respects the original brand while taking the story forward. Initially slated for an April release, the makers pushed the date to August to perfect the post-production and capitalize on the Independence Day weekend.

Independence Day Clash: Awarapan 2 vs. Lahore 1947

The box office battle on August 14, 2026, is shaping up to be legendary. Awarapan 2, a film rooted in intense romance and redemption, will go head-to-head with the grand patriotic narrative of Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s Lahore 1947. While the Sunny Deol starrer is expected to draw the masses with its high-octane nationalism, the cult following of the original Awarapan and Emraan Hashmi’s “bad boy” charm are expected to make this a neck-and-neck fight for the top spot at the box office.
