A suspected far-right extremist has been arrested in the Netherlands for allegedly plotting to assassinate members of the Dutch royal family, in a case that has raised serious concerns about security threats and extremist violence in Europe.

The 33-year-old suspect was detained in The Hague earlier this year and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Authorities say he had allegedly planned to target Princess Catharina-Amalia—the heir to the Dutch throne—and her younger sister Princess Alexia of the Netherlands.

Weapons, Nazi Symbols, and a “Bloodbath” Note

Investigators uncovered deeply disturbing evidence during the arrest. The suspect was reportedly in possession of two axes engraved with the words “Alexia,” “Mossad,” and “Sieg Heil,” the latter being a phrase historically associated with Nazi ideology.

In addition, authorities found a handwritten note containing the names “Amalia” and “Alexia,” along with the word “bloodbath,” suggesting a potentially violent intent. Despite these findings, officials have not yet confirmed a clear motive behind the alleged plot.

Royal Family Maintains Public Engagements

Even as details of the plot emerged, the Dutch royal family continued with scheduled public appearances during King’s Day (Netherlands) celebrations. The event marks the birthday of King Willem-Alexander and is one of the country’s most significant national holidays.

Members of the royal family were seen participating in festivities, interacting with the public, and maintaining a visible presence despite the security concerns.

A History of Threats Against the Crown Princess

This is not the first time Princess Catharina-Amalia has faced threats to her safety.

In 2020, she was forced into hiding following a series of violent threats. Two years later, concerns escalated when she had to leave her student accommodation in Amsterdam due to fears linked to organised crime and possible kidnapping attempts.

At one point, she relocated abroad for safety reasons, reportedly spending time in Madrid before returning to the Netherlands under heightened security arrangements. The threats significantly disrupted her personal life, limiting her freedom and ability to live like a typical student.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the suspect’s background, possible affiliations, and intentions. The upcoming court hearing is expected to shed more light on the case, including whether the plot was part of a broader extremist network or an isolated plan.

The incident once again highlights the persistent risks posed by radical ideologies and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in preventing targeted acts of violence against high-profile individuals.
