Veteran producer Boney Kapoor, in a recent interview, shared personal insights into the difficulty of balancing his first marriage to Mona Shourie Kapoor with his relationship with Sridevi

September 26, 2025: Veteran Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor, celebrated for blockbusters like Mr. India and No Entry, has offered a rare glimpse into the deeply complex personal choices that defined his life, particularly the delicate balance between his two marriages.

Speaking on Chanda Kochhar’s YouTube channel, Kapoor candidly discussed the emotional fallout and subsequent journey towards unity for his family, following his marriage to Mona Shourie Kapoor in 1983 and then to the late superstar Sridevi in 1996.

The Confession and the Divided Heart

Kapoor opened up about the initial, painful conversation with his first wife, Mona, regarding his relationship with Sridevi. He made a striking personal revelation to emphasize the maturity of his first wife:

“I told my first wife. I had confessed to her. Look at this ring I’m wearing and the one Sridevi was wearing. Both were bought by Mona.”

He admitted to feeling profoundly “divided” during this period, especially as Sridevi was coping with the loss of both her parents. The emotional struggle extended to his children, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, from his first marriage. He recalled a poignant memory:

“I have a letter from Arjun (Kapoor) where he asked me, ‘Why don’t you come home?’ I used to feel bad. What could I do? I was divided. On one side was my wife (Sridevi), and on the other side were my kids.”

Kapoor explained that while his children had Mona and their grandparents for support, he couldn’t leave Sridevi alone. He acknowledged that the separation from their father still deeply affected Arjun and Anshula.

Mona’s Maturity and the Path to Unity

Kapoor expressed immense gratitude for Mona Shourie Kapoor’s maturity, noting that despite her public pain, she handled the situation with grace and never poisoned the children’s minds against him or his second family.

“She brought the children up without creating any kind of hatred toward me or the other kids,” he shared.

Following Sridevi’s untimely death in 2018, the family dynamic underwent a significant shift. The tragedy ultimately became a catalyst for the four children—Arjun Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor (from his first marriage), and Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor (from his second marriage)—to come together.

Kapoor concluded by expressing his sense of peace and blessing over the current relationship among his children. He stated he feels truly blessed that today, all four of his children are united as one family.
