Actor and Broadway performer Josh Grisetti has died by suicide at the age of 44. The tragic news was confirmed after his longtime friend and fellow Broadway actor Rob McClure shared an emotional tribute on social media.

Grisetti was widely known for his performances in Broadway productions such as Something Rotten! and It Shoulda Been You. He also gained recognition among television audiences for his recurring role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Rob McClure confirms Josh Grisetti’s death

On Sunday, Rob McClure announced Grisetti’s passing through a heartfelt Instagram post.

The two actors shared a close friendship and had performed together in Something Rotten! on Broadway before touring the musical across the United States.

“It is with a shattered heart that I share that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday,” McClure wrote.

He added that he was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

“I’m not ready to even attempt to understand. My heart is with his wife and family as they try to deal with the reality of this.”

McClure also revealed how deeply connected their families were. He shared that he had served as the best man at Grisetti’s wedding.

“[My wife] and I are beyond heartbroken,” he wrote.

Calling the loss devastating, McClure added, “Communities around the world will never be the same without him. We love you Josh. Just a cataclysmic loss.”

He also said details regarding a memorial service would be announced later.

Josh Grisetti’s career on Broadway and television

Josh Grisetti built a successful career in both theatre and television.

According to PEOPLE, he portrayed Ralph Emerson in the fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, appearing in eight episodes.

Earlier in his television career, he starred in the 2007 ABC sitcom The Knights of Prosperity, alongside Donal Logue and Sofía Vergara.

However, theatre remained his biggest passion.

In 2015, Grisetti appeared in the Broadway musical It Shoulda Been You, sharing the stage with acclaimed performers including Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris, David Burtka, and Chip Zien.

A year later, he took over the role of Nigel Bottom in Something Rotten!, replacing John Cariani. He later toured the musical across the United States alongside Rob McClure for more than a year.

Josh Grisetti was born in Washington and spent much of his childhood in southwest Virginia.

He graduated with a drama diploma from the North Carolina School of the Arts in 2000. Later, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the Boston Conservatory in 2004.

Over the years, he established himself as a respected performer in the American theatre community through his stage work and television appearances.

Family survives him

Josh Grisetti is survived by his wife, Mackenzie Grisetti. The couple had been married for six years and lived together in Southern California.
