The much-awaited romantic drama Chand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, finally hit theatres on May 22 after multiple delays. However, the film’s opening day collections have been lower than expected for a major Dharma Productions release.

According to trade estimates, the film earned around Rs 2.90 crore net in India on its first day across nearly 4,944 shows nationwide.

Modest Opening Compared To Recent Releases

While the film managed to outperform Ek Din, which reportedly opened at Rs 1.15 crore nett, it still lagged behind Ananya Panday’s previous release Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri that had collected Rs 7.75 crore on day one.

Trade analysts believe the movie’s box office journey will heavily depend on audience word-of-mouth over the weekend, especially since romantic dramas often witness growth based on emotional connection with viewers.

Story Revolves Around Love, Marriage And Emotional Turmoil

Directed by Vivek Soni, Chand Mera Dil follows the journey of Chandni and Aarav, played by Ananya Panday and Lakshya respectively.

Set against the backdrop of Hyderabad, the story begins with the duo meeting in college and gradually falling in love. Their relationship later moves toward marriage following an unexpected pregnancy, but emotional conflicts and misunderstandings begin to strain their bond.

The film explores themes of love, vulnerability, emotional breakdowns, and the complexities of modern relationships.

Review Highlights Emotional Chaos And Raw Performances

Early reviews have praised the film’s emotionally intense storytelling and the performances of the lead actors. Critics noted that the movie captures the messy and exhausting realities of intimate relationships through emotionally charged scenes filled with arguments, breakdowns, and vulnerability.

Particular praise has gone toward the film’s climactic emotional sequences and its realistic portrayal of complicated marriages and personal struggles.

Weekend Performance Will Be Crucial

Despite a slow opening, industry observers believe Chand Mera Dil still has a chance to gain momentum if positive audience reactions translate into stronger weekend footfalls. The coming days are expected to determine whether the film can sustain itself at the box office or continue its modest run.
