January 19, 2025: Coldplay’s Mumbai concert on Saturday was not only a night to remember for music lovers but also for cricket fans, thanks to a surprising mention of India’s star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, by the band’s frontman, Chris Martin.
While performing one of the final songs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Martin playfully said, “Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage.” He continued, “He (Bumrah) says he needs to bowl at me now.”
This spontaneous mention thrilled the crowd, especially cricket fans, many of whom wondered if Bumrah would make an appearance on stage. Although he didn’t show up, the shout-out from Martin sparked a loud cheer from the audience.
The timing of the mention was particularly exciting, as Bumrah had recently been named Player of the Series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, where he claimed 32 wickets in a five-match series against Australia and captained India in the first and final Tests.
Coldplay’s India tour continues with two more shows in Mumbai on January 19 and 21, followed by performances in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. The concert, organized by BookMyShow Live, brought together the worlds of music and cricket in a memorable way.
