January 19, 2025: Actor Christopher Abbott recently shared his experience shooting for the horror film Wolf Man, where he takes on the challenging role of a character who transforms into a monster.
Abbott, who plays Blake, underwent intense makeup sessions for his werewolf transformation, which required hours of preparation. Reflecting on the experience, Abbott humorously shared, “There’s a lot of sugar in that blood stuff,” and recounted a scene in which he has to gnaw on his leg, admitting, “I mean, it’s not like I want it, but it wasn’t horrible.”

Abbott also spoke about his reaction when he first saw himself fully made up as the werewolf, saying, “I laughed immediately… It’s scary and all that stuff, but it’s so ridiculous.” He emphasized the unique research process for the role, which involved studying animal behavior in addition to human reactions. Abbott explained that the transformation process in the film shifts from 80 percent human to 20 percent animal, requiring him to understand how an animal would react to fear or illness.
The film, directed by Leigh Whannell, follows Abbott’s character Blake, a man who inherits a rural farmhouse in Oregon after his father disappears. Alongside his wife Charlotte (played by Julia Garner) and their daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth), Blake’s behavior starts to change mysteriously as the night unfolds, leading to his gradual transformation into something unrecognizable.
