Dakota Johnson has officially sold her famous West Hollywood home just one week after putting it on the market. Although the property sold for slightly less than its $6 million asking price, the actress still made a profit of more than $2 million.
According to Page Six, the Fifty Shades of Grey star sold the house for $5.92 million after purchasing it a decade ago for $3.55 million.
Dakota Johnson Sells Her Hollywood Hills Home
Johnson bought the 3,210-square-foot property in 2016 from television producer Ryan Murphy, shortly after the success of the first Fifty Shades of Grey film.
The three-bedroom home is located in the Hollywood Hills, near the famous Chateau Marmont. Built in 1947, the property was designed by renowned architect Carl Maston and is known for its mid-century modern style.
Although the sale price was below the original listing, Johnson still earned a profit of more than $2 million from the transaction.
The House Became an Internet Favourite
The home gained worldwide attention in 2020 after Dakota Johnson welcomed Architectural Digest inside for a house tour.
Her stylish green kitchen quickly went viral on social media. As a result, it inspired home décor trends and became one of the most talked-about celebrity interiors online.
The property’s warm design, peaceful garden and unique architecture also attracted praise from design enthusiasts.
Dakota Once Said She Would Never Sell It
Interestingly, Johnson had previously said she never imagined selling the property.
During her 2020 interview with Architectural Digest, the actress revealed that she fell in love with the house the moment she saw it.
She said the home felt both clean and cosy, making it the perfect place to return to after travelling for work.
Johnson also shared the history behind the property. She explained that architect Carl Maston was friends with famous architects John Lautner and Richard Neutra. According to her, they often met at Musso & Frank Grill, where Maston eventually married a hostess he had fallen in love with. The couple later lived in the same house.
Reflecting on the importance of having a permanent home, Johnson said she wanted one place where all her belongings stayed.
She added that her demanding acting career often keeps her on the move. Therefore, having a place she could always return to gave her a sense of stability. She described the home as her “anchor” and said it helped her feel grounded.
Dakota Johnson’s Malibu Home With Chris Martin
Apart from her Hollywood Hills property, Dakota Johnson also purchased a Malibu mansion with former partner Chris Martin in 2020.
However, the couple sold that property the following year.
Johnson and the Coldplay singer were together for eight years before ending their relationship in 2025.
