Washington [US], November 18: Daniel Craig sparked excitement and intrigue at the 15th Governors Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles as he addressed the future of the James Bond franchise while honoring producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, reported People.
During his speech, Craig quipped, “Let’s just get something out of the way. If you came here this evening to find out who the next James Bond is, don’t look at me, but he might be in the room. I’m just joking. Maybe I’m not.”
Craig, who portrayed the iconic British spy in Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021), previously stated that he has no preference over who takes on the role next.
Broccoli and Wilson, who were presented with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, acknowledged the gravity of choosing a new Bond. “Every time we cast a new actor, the films change. It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction,” said Wilson.
Actor Colman Domingo humorously pitched himself for a role in the Bond universe, joking during his remarks, “Now if you’re thinking of me, I don’t know what to tell you: Bond or Bond villain? You decide…I will leave my headshots on your table.”
The 2024 Governors Awards also paid tribute to other honorees, including the late Quincy Jones, who passed away earlier this month at 91, casting director Juliet Taylor, and filmmaker Richard Curtis, reported People.
