July 11, 2025: Udaipur Files Release Date– The distribution of the movie Udaipur Files, which is based on the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, was temporarily halted by the Delhi High Court on Thursday. On July 11, the movie was supposed to be released. Until the central government decides whether to grant the petitions for a permanent ban on the film, the court’s order will stay in force.

The petitioners were instructed to file their grievance to the national government within two days by a division bench made up of Justice Anish Dayal and Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya.
The petitioners, who are charged with the murder of Kanhaiya Lal, went to court to claim that their right to a fair trial would be jeopardized if the movie were released.
The court stated that “admittedly, petitioners have not taken recourse to available remedy with the central government.”
“Since we are relegating petitioner to invoke revisional remedy, we provide that till the application for grant of interim relief is decided by the government there shall be stay on release of the film,” the court said.
Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor from Udaipur, was murdered in June 2022, allegedly by Mohammad Ghous and Mohammad Riyaz. The murder was allegedly committed in reprisal for Lal’s claimed social media post endorsing former BJP leader Nupur Sharma after she made contentious comments regarding Prophet Mohammed, according to a video later posted by the accused.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) looked into the issue, and the suspects were charged under the Indian Penal Code’s pertinent sections as well as the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The special NIA court in Jaipur is now holding the trial.
