Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas may be one of Hollywood and Bollywood’s most-loved couples today, but Nick has now revealed that his marriage proposal almost didn’t go according to plan. Speaking on the latest episode of Hey Jonas, the singer recalled how flight delays, timing issues and his own anxiety nearly derailed the romantic surprise during their Greece vacation in July 2018.
Nick shared that he had carefully planned to propose to Priyanka at midnight on July 19, just after celebrating her birthday on July 18. However, delayed flights pushed their schedule back by several hours, leaving him increasingly nervous that the proposal wouldn’t happen as planned. “When we got engaged, I had this plan to do it at midnight after her birthday. Our flight was delayed, which put us back by three to four hours. I kept doing the time in my head, while she kept asking, ‘What are you stressed about?'” Nick recalled.
Priyanka admitted she had absolutely no idea that a proposal was coming. She believed they were simply enjoying a birthday holiday in Greece and couldn’t understand why Nick seemed unusually anxious throughout the trip. Looking back, she joked, “I was wondering why he was so anxious on this holiday. I thought, ‘Is this just the kind of person he is?'”
After reaching their destination much later than expected, Nick spent the evening constantly checking the clock, worried his carefully planned surprise would fall apart. Eventually, at around 2:30 am, when Priyanka suggested they call it a night, Nick told her he had one last birthday gift. He returned with an engagement ring, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
The proposal came with one unexpected twist. Nick revealed that Priyanka didn’t immediately respond after he popped the question. “She didn’t say yes right away. She just stared at me for about 40 to 50 seconds while I was still on one knee thinking, ‘Should I put the ring on?'” he said. Priyanka laughed while clarifying that Nick had already slipped the ring onto her finger before she finally said yes.
The couple tied the knot in a grand wedding celebration at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur in December 2018, honouring both Hindu and Christian traditions. In 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, and have since continued to share glimpses of their family life with fans around the world.
