Doechii Beats Eminem, J Cole, Wins Best Rap Album At Grammys

February 3, 2025: It was a night full of unforgettable moments at the 2025 Grammy Awards, and one of the most emotional was when Doechii took home her very first Grammy for Best Rap Album for her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. The 23-year-old rising hip-hop star, who had already made a name for herself with her bold style and unique sound, couldn’t hold back tears as she accepted the honor.

In her acceptance speech, she reflected on the significance of the award, mentioning how the Best Rap Album category had been introduced back in 1989 and how she was now only the third woman in history to win in this category, following the legendary Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. She said, “This category was introduced in 1989, and two women have won. Three women have won—Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Doechii,” making it clear just how rare and historic her win was.

The night wasn’t all easy victories for Doechii, though. Despite her triumph in the Best Rap Album category, she had also been nominated for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance for her track “Nissan Altima.” However, she lost the latter award to Kendrick Lamar’s track Not Like Us, a song that had already been building a lot of buzz before the ceremony. But Doechii didn’t let that hold her back.

When she got up to the mic, her message was clear, especially for young Black girls who might be watching. “I know there is a Black girl out there watching, and I want to tell you that you can do it. Anything is possible. Don’t allow anybody to project stereotypes onto you… You are exactly who you need to be to get where you are, and I am a testimony to that.” She ended with a look of fierce determination in her eyes, leaving a lasting impression on the entire room.

Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter also made history that night, winning her first-ever Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for her record Short n’ Sweet. The recognition marked a turning point in the pop star’s career as she finally found a place within the prestigious Grammy community.

And in another major win, Chappell Roan took home the Grammy for Best New Artist, with her performance and her speech advocating for better treatment of artists by record labels, a sentiment that many within the industry could resonate with.

Then, of course, there was Beyoncé. In a moment that would go down in history, she became the first Black woman in over fifty years to win a Grammy in the country music category. It was a groundbreaking achievement for an artist whose influence spans across genres, and her win proved that genre boundaries could not define her.

Hosted by Trevor Noah, the 67th Annual Grammy Awards were streamed live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, showcasing a night full of reflection, celebration, and the power of artistic expression. The ceremony was available to Indian audiences live on Disney+ Hotstar, making it even more accessible to fans worldwide.

Overall, the night was a true celebration of diversity, talent, and the power of perseverance, with these groundbreaking wins setting the stage for a new era in the music industry.
