May 25, 2025: Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has shared the pivotal advice he received from John Krasinski and Steve Carell before signing on for The Office spinoff, The Paper. In a recent interview with People, Gleeson revealed that Krasinski, who played fan-favorite Jim Halpert, was all in on the idea: “His big advice that he gave me was to do it.”

Carell, who portrayed the iconic Michael Scott, echoed that sentiment. Gleeson added, “They both said, if it’s Greg Daniels, you should do it. Getting to work with him is a treat that not many people get to have.”

Reflecting on their input, Gleeson admitted that their enthusiasm tipped the scale. “If John and Steve had been like, ‘Don’t do it, it’s a nightmare,’ I would’ve hightailed it. But they could not have been more positive,” he said.

📺 The Paper Premieres This September

NBC recently announced that The Paper will premiere this September on Peacock. The mockumentary-style comedy, created by Greg Daniels, is set in the newsroom of a struggling Midwestern newspaper, The Truth Teller.

Gleeson stars alongside The White Lotus actress Sabrina Impacciatore, with The Office alumnus Oscar Nuñez reprising his role as Oscar Martinez. At NBC’s May Upfronts, Gleeson described the show as featuring “a wonderful ensemble of underdog characters that are banding together to keep journalism alive.”
