The much-awaited sequel to the cult comedy Spaceballs is officially in the works, with Spaceballs 2 scheduled to hit theatres on April 23, 2027.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum and written by Josh Gad along with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, the film is being developed as a live-action follow-up to the iconic 1987 parody.
Star Cast and Production
Actor Lewis Pullman will feature in the film, while Josh Gad will not only star but also co-produce the project. Legendary filmmaker Mel Brooks, now 99, returns as a producer after creating the original film.
The movie is being produced under Imagine Entertainment by Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody, alongside Gad, Brooks, and Greenbaum. Anthony Carrigan is also set to appear in the film.
A Cult Classic Returns
The original Spaceballs was a parody of major sci-fi franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, and The Wizard of Oz.
It followed the adventures of Lone Starr and his sidekick Barf as they attempted to rescue Princess Vespa from the villainous Spaceballs, delivering a mix of satire, slapstick, and pop culture humour.
Plot Details Under Wraps
While excitement around the sequel is building, the makers have kept the storyline tightly under wraps, leaving fans curious about how the iconic universe will be revived for a modern audience.
With a legacy cast, fresh creative team, and nostalgic appeal, Spaceballs 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated comedy releases of 2027.
