Marvel’s First Family Makes a Strong Debut. The Highly Anticipated Film Rakes in Millions on Opening Day

July 26, 2025: The US box office opened with a bang for Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It made $56 million on its first day. This is a great start for the renowned superhero team to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) on July 25.

“Fantastic Four: First Steps” Nabs Strong $56 million on opening day, neck and neck with “Superman”. The movie’s opening day box office puts it in a tough race with James Gunn’s “Superman,” which made $56.5 million. “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” had the third-best opening day in the US this year. It made $57.11 million, which is a little less than “A Minecraft Movie” but more than “Lilo & Stitch” ($55.94 million). The $56 million includes $24.4 million made from previews on Thursday night.

Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak reports that the film’s audience demographics reflect a solid general audience turnout (93%), with 7% being kids under 12. In comparison, “Superman” had 31% of its audience made up of parents and kids (9% under 12).

“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is a big deal since it formally brings Marvel’s First Family into the MCU now that Disney owns 20th Century Fox. Matt Shakman directed the movie, while Kevin Feige produced it. The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Julia Garner also plays the mysterious Silver Surfer, who was a big part of the trailer that came out in April.

The official summary says the movie takes place in “the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world,” where the crew meets their “most daunting challenge yet.” The goal of this reboot is to be different from earlier versions. The Tim Story-directed “Fantastic Four” (2005) opened to $56 million, while its 2007 sequel, “Fantastic Four: Silver Surfer,” opened to $58 million. Josh Trank’s “Fantastic Four” (2015), a Fox-Marvel movie that came out more recently, made $25.6 million on its first day.

The figures in the US are strong, but sources from India say that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” had a slower start, making about ₹5.10 crore (about $610,000 USD) on its first day. It faced tough competition from Bollywood movies that were released around the same time. But it is expected that the film’s opening weekend will do well around the world.
