Rapper and singer Honey Singh has spoken candidly about the devastating impact of drug addiction on his life and career, calling it the “biggest mistake” he ever made. In a recent interview, he revealed the long and difficult path to recovery, which lasted nearly a decade.

The Stolen Years and Recovery

Honey Singh admitted that his addiction began around the peak of his career and caused long-lasting damage:

  • Quitting vs. Recovery: He stated he quit taking “dry drugs” around 2014 after being diagnosed and told he was ill (he was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder). However, he emphasized that the toxins did not leave his system easily:“But even then, it still took me 8 years to recover. It just wouldn’t leave my system. And I never want anyone, not even an enemy, to go through what I went through.”
  • A Warning to Youth: He now uses his platform to caution younger fans, urging them to “especially stay away from drugs because they damage you so much. Slowly, and you don’t even realize it.”

Avoiding His Parents

The pressure of fame, combined with the secret of his addiction, led Honey Singh to distance himself from his family during his busiest years.

  • Estrangement at Peak: He revealed that from 2012 to 2014, he met his parents only “4-5 times” because he was consumed by fame, money, and touring the world.
  • Hiding the Addiction: The need to conceal his drug use was a major factor in maintaining that distance.“I had also maintained my distance with them because I thought they would get to know about my addiction.”

Career Comeback and Future

After a long hiatus to focus on his mental health and recovery, Honey Singh is actively rebuilding his career:

  • Recent Music: He returned to the spotlight in 2023 with the song Kalaastar (a sequel to Desi Kalakaar) and has recently released the album 51 Glorious Days.
  • World Tour: He is preparing to launch his global comeback tour, the My Story World Tour, which kicks off in Dubai on February 6, 2026, at the Coca-Cola Arena. The tour is billed as a “musical autobiography,” tracing his journey from Delhi to global stardom.
