Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has voiced support for Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel’s recent remarks suggesting that women should become an “expert mother” before pursuing professional careers such as becoming an IAS officer or a teacher. The Governor’s statement, delivered during the 41st convocation ceremony of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), has sparked widespread debate over the balance between motherhood and career aspirations.
Responding to the discussion on Sunday, Kangana Ranaut shared a personal childhood memory on X (formerly Twitter), saying that nurturing and caregiving came naturally to her from a young age. She recalled how her brother preferred playing football and cricket, while she spent her time building doll houses, stitching clothes for dolls, cooking imaginary meals, and pretending to be a mother. According to Kangana, these experiences reflected an instinctive inclination toward nurturing rather than something that needed to be learned.
Elaborating on her views, the actress said that the ability to nurture is an inherent quality in women. She wrote that God has bestowed upon women the responsibility of nurturing humanity, adding, “It is our true nature.” Kangana maintained that women naturally embrace roles centered around care, compassion, and love, which she believes are fundamental to their identity.
Kangana further stated that women have long been revered in Indian culture through titles such as “Devi,” “Shakti,” “Annapurna,” and “Mata,” symbolizing strength, nourishment, and motherhood. She added that beyond societal expectations, there is immense happiness in expressing love, feeding others, dancing, and nurturing those around them.
Anandiben Patel’s original remarks have generated mixed reactions on social media and among public figures, with some praising her emphasis on motherhood while others argued that women should not have to choose between family responsibilities and professional ambitions. Kangana’s endorsement has further fueled the ongoing conversation surrounding gender roles, parenting, and women’s participation in the workforce.
