Actor Karan Kundrra has responded to online criticism after reports suggested that he sought his parents’ approval before proposing to his long-time girlfriend, Tejasswi Prakash. The actor defended his decision, saying there is nothing wrong with involving family members in important life choices and questioning why such a practice should be viewed negatively.
The controversy erupted after social media users mocked Karan for allegedly consulting his parents before taking the next step in his relationship. Addressing the issue during a recent appearance on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube channel, Karan explained why he believes family opinions continue to matter, especially when making significant personal decisions.
Reacting to the criticism, Karan said, “Agar aap parents se nahi puchoge, agar aap apne bhaiyon se nahi puchoge, to kisse puchoge?” (If you don’t ask your parents or your siblings, then who will you ask?)
The actor maintained that seeking advice from parents and siblings should not be interpreted as a lack of independence. Instead, he described it as a sign of respect and inclusion.
Karan also emphasised that entering a relationship or planning marriage does not diminish the importance of one’s family. “Kisi aur ke aane se aap apne parents ke position nahi bhul jaoge,” he said, adding that a partner’s arrival in life does not replace the role parents play.
The actor further stated that parents continue to have an important place in a person’s life regardless of age. According to him, discussing major decisions with family members is natural and should not attract criticism.
Expressing frustration over the online backlash, Karan took aim at those questioning his approach. “Jo log mereko comment kar rahe hain na ki you should not talk to your parents, bhai kon si duniya mein paida hue ho? Hindustan mein paida hue ho ki kahi Kardashians ke ghar paida hue ho tumlog?” he remarked.
The actor suggested that many of the negative comments were coming from anonymous social media users who did not understand the cultural significance of family involvement in personal matters.
Karan also clarified that Tejasswi Prakash had no objection to him discussing the proposal with his parents. He stressed that the decision was mutually understood and that there was no conflict between the couple regarding family involvement.
The television stars, who first met during their stint on the reality show Bigg Boss, have been among the most popular celebrity couples in the entertainment industry. Their relationship has frequently attracted public attention, with fans closely following developments regarding their future plans.
Karan’s latest remarks have once again sparked debate online, with some supporting his belief in family values while others argue that marriage decisions should remain entirely personal. Despite the divided reactions, the actor remains firm in his view that consulting parents before taking a major life step is both natural and respectful.
