A significant political and social media storm has erupted following the removal of Raghav Chadha as the Deputy Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Rajya Sabha. While the party cites “internal restructuring,” the move has drawn sharp reactions, most notably from Khushboo Patani, sister of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, who has encouraged the young MP to launch his own political outfit.

The reshuffle, which took place on Thursday, saw Ashok Mittal take over Chadha’s previous leadership role in the Upper House.

Our Country Needs Leaders Like You

Responding to a video message posted by Chadha on X (formerly Twitter), Khushboo Patani expressed strong solidarity with the MP. Praising his educational background and political conduct, she suggested a future beyond the Aam Aadmi Party.

“Raghav ji, you are an educated, sorted leader. Our country needs leaders like you. I am sure in the coming time, you will form your own party. We would all like to join you because you want to walk with the country. Jai Hind.” — Khushboo Patani

Her comments reflect a growing sentiment among a section of the youth who view Chadha as a prominent voice for middle-class issues.

The “Crime” of Raising Public Issues?

In his video response on Friday, April 3, 2026, Raghav Chadha questioned the party’s motives, suggesting he was being sidelined for his vocal stance on public grievances. He claimed the AAP had requested the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to limit his speaking opportunities.

Issues Chadha highlighted as potential reasons for his removal:

  • Economic Burdens: High food prices at airports and the tax burden on the middle class.
  • Labor Rights: Challenges faced by gig workers (Swiggy/Zomato delivery partners).
  • Infrastructure: Frequent flight delays and issues with prepaid mobile plans.
  • Social Reform: The need for legal paternity leave and addressing paper leaks.

Criticism and Internal Friction

The development has not been met with universal sympathy. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit criticized Chadha for his previous silence during party controversies, including the sidelining of Anna Hazare and the “Sheesh Mahal” bungalow controversy involving Arvind Kejriwal.

“You can’t cry foul now because you supported all the wrong which Kejriwal did. No sympathies for you,” Pandit wrote.

The Context of the Ouster:

  • Restructuring: AAP leadership maintains the change is purely administrative.
  • The “London” Factor: Speculation continues to swirl regarding Chadha’s long absence in London for eye surgery during Arvind Kejriwal’s 2024 arrest, a period during which he was notably absent from party protests.

As the Rajya Sabha prepares for its next session, all eyes will be on whether Chadha continues to speak under the party’s quota or if this marks the beginning of a new independent chapter in his political career.
