The end of an era is approaching for Chicago P.D. as LaRoyce Hawkins is reportedly set to leave the long-running NBC police drama after portraying Officer Kevin Atwater since the series premiered in 2014.
According to reports, Hawkins will conclude Atwater’s storyline within the first two or three episodes of Season 14. The show’s producers have not revealed how the character will exit, leaving fans to speculate about his final chapter.
Kevin Atwater’s Possible Exit
One of the strongest theories stems from Atwater’s Season 13 storyline involving Officer Tasha Fox, played by Karen Obilom.
After rekindling their relationship, Tasha moved to Miami for a new job. Later in the season, she returned to Chicago with a life-changing revelation—she was pregnant with Atwater’s child.
The storyline has led many fans to believe Atwater could leave Chicago to begin a new life with Tasha and their growing family in Miami.
Another Major Cast Shake-Up
Hawkins’ reported departure continues a series of notable cast changes for Chicago P.D. in recent years.
Previous exits include:
- Jesse Lee Soffer
- Tracy Spiridakos
- Toya Turner
Meanwhile, Arienne Mandi joined the series ahead of Season 13 as Officer Eva Imani.
Reports also indicate the production is casting a new Black police officer described as an “agent of chaos,” suggesting a fresh dynamic for the intelligence unit.
A Decade as Kevin Atwater
Since 2014, LaRoyce Hawkins has been one of the central figures of Chicago P.D., appearing not only on the flagship series but also in numerous crossover episodes across NBC’s One Chicago franchise.
Working alongside characters such as Hank Voight, Adam Ruzek, Kim Burgess, Dante Torres and Eva Imani, Atwater became a fan favorite thanks to his integrity, resilience and emotional storylines.
If the reported exit goes ahead, Hawkins will leave behind more than a decade of memorable performances that helped define the series.
