The beloved yellow troublemakers are back with another hilarious adventure in Minions & Monsters, the latest installment in the Despicable Me universe.
Directed by Pierre Coffin and Patrick Delage, the film serves as the third Minions prequel and the seventh movie in the blockbuster Despicable Me franchise. This time, the story shifts to Hollywood in the late 1920s, where the Minions dream of becoming movie stars before accidentally unleashing dangerous monsters.
A Quick Recap Of The Minions’ Journey
The Minions first captured audiences’ hearts in Despicable Me (2010) as Gru’s mischievous yet loyal assistants.
Their popularity led to standalone adventures, beginning with:
- Minions (2015): Exploring their centuries-long search for the world’s greatest villain.
- Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022): Showing how they first met and teamed up with a young Gru.
Unlike its predecessors, Minions & Monsters follows an entirely different group of Minions and is set in 1927, years before Gru’s story begins.
Minions & Monsters Plot
The film centres on James, Henry and Ed, three Minions who unexpectedly become silent-film stars during Hollywood’s golden age.
Their fortunes change when the film industry transitions to sound. Since nobody can understand Minionese, the trio lose their acting careers overnight.
Determined to revive their dreams, James decides to make an independent monster movie using an ancient spellbook.
However, things quickly spiral out of control when the spellbook summons real monsters instead of fictional ones, including the adorable Goomi and the gigantic Irene.
Meanwhile, another group of Minions follows an alien robot named Dort, who develops feelings for women’s rights activist Debbie.
As chaos spreads, the Minions must work together to stop the monsters and save the world.
