June 17, 2025: Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning continues to soar at the global box office, with its performance in China marking a major milestone. After breaking into the top 20 highest-grossing Hollywood films in the Chinese market, the blockbuster is now just $1 million away from surpassing Disney-Pixar’s Soul and claiming the 19th spot.

According to box office analyst Luiz Fernando, the film earned approximately $593,000 on its third Monday in China from over 50,000 screenings — a 47.8% drop from the previous Monday. With a cumulative total of $56.7 million after 18 days, and $60,000 in pre-sales for its third Tuesday, Mission: Impossible 8 is poised to overtake Soul, which grossed $57.3 million during its run in China.

For context, Soul, featuring the voices of Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey, holds the 19th rank among the top-grossing Hollywood films in China post-pandemic. Once MI 8 surpasses that number, it will move up from its current 20th position, recently overtaking The Croods: A New Age.
Worldwide Box Office Performance
The film, which opened during Memorial Day weekend, is proving unstoppable globally. It has already crossed the $507 million mark worldwide, bringing the Mission: Impossible franchise closer to the $5 billion milestone. Here’s a breakdown of the film’s current earnings:
- North America: $166.56 million
- International: $340.5 million
- Worldwide Total: $507.07 million
As the eighth installment in one of Hollywood’s most beloved action franchises, The Final Reckoning is also the highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025 in Japan. With its continued momentum, the franchise looks set to surpass $5 billion in cumulative global box office revenue before the end of MI 8’s run.
