According to India Forums and other outlets, the makers are in discussions with Mohit Raina, best known for his portrayal of Mahadev in the iconic television series Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev (2011–2014). While there’s no official confirmation yet, sources say the talks are in the final stages. If finalized, Mohit’s return to the divine role would mark a major nostalgic moment for fans and bring a sense of authenticity and reverence to the part.

Raina’s performance as Lord Shiva on television earned him widespread acclaim for his calm demeanor, spiritual gravitas, and powerful screen presence. His casting in Ramayana could be a masterstroke, especially given the cultural significance and emotional weight of the character.

The film’s ensemble already includes Sunny Deol reportedly playing Lord Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, Arun Govil (who famously portrayed Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan) as King Dasharatha, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Kunal Kapoor has also confirmed his role as Lord Indra.
Speaking to News18, Kunal shared his excitement about the film: “This is a very important film in our cultural history. It’s being mounted at a scale that we’ve never seen before, and I think audiences will be amazed.”
Nitesh Tiwari and Ranbir Kapoor have reportedly locked Diwali 2026 for Ramayana Part 1, with Part 2 scheduled for Diwali 2027. Shooting for the sequel is expected to begin later this year.
As the mythological epic gains momentum, fans eagerly await more casting confirmations and a glimpse into what promises to be a cinematic milestone in Indian film history.
