Actor and model Muzammil Ibrahim has issued a clarification after a clip from one of his interviews discussing his past relationship with Bollywood star Deepika Padukone went viral on social media. The actor stated that the interview currently being circulated is not recent but was recorded more than a year ago, adding that edited excerpts have taken his comments out of context.
Taking to Instagram, Muzammil explained that the viral clip was extracted from a much longer conversation and presented as fresh remarks. He wrote that “the interview being discussed and wrongly headlined as ‘fresh claims’ was recorded over a year ago.” He further added that the hesitation, context, and respect with which certain topics were discussed were lost when only selected portions of the interview were shared online.
The actor also emphasized that he has always spoken respectfully about people from his past. In his statement, Muzammil said he has spent years focusing on his career and personal life and hopes public conversations remain centered on his work. He reiterated that he believes in speaking honestly while maintaining respect for others.
The controversy began after excerpts from Muzammil’s appearance on Siddharth Kannan’s podcast resurfaced online. During the interview, he reflected on his relationship with Deepika Padukone from their modelling days in Mumbai, stating that they dated for nearly two years before parting ways. He remarked that he had “no regrets” about the breakup and said, “I was a star at that time; she was not.” However, he also praised Deepika’s achievements, calling her a superstar and expressing admiration for her work and success.
Muzammil further revealed that he and Deepika remained in touch for some time after their relationship ended and would occasionally congratulate each other on professional milestones. According to him, they eventually lost contact after Deepika married actor Ranveer Singh.
The clarification comes amid widespread discussion on social media, with many users debating whether the viral clips accurately reflected the full context of Muzammil’s comments. His latest statement seeks to address the controversy by stressing that his remarks were never intended to disrespect Deepika Padukone.
