The streaming giant and Indian TV titan Ekta Kapoor unite to create original content across formats, promising culturally rich stories for global audiences.

Netflix has signed a landmark content partnership with Balaji Telefilms Ltd., the influential Indian entertainment house founded by Ekta Kapoor, Jeetendra Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor. The collaboration marks a new chapter in India’s digital content landscape, bringing together Netflix’s global reach and Balaji’s prolific storytelling expertise.

The strategic alliance will span content creation across multiple formats specifically designed for streaming audiences. A new untitled series is already in advanced development, signaling the beginning of what promises to be a dynamic creative slate.

The projects will be produced across Balaji Telefilms’ production arms — Balaji Motion Pictures and Balaji Telefilms Digital — ensuring a blend of cinematic scale and rooted storytelling. This partnership builds on a history of successful collaborations between the two, including the critically acclaimed titles Kathal, Pagglait, Jaane Jaan, and the Busan-selected Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare.

Founded in 1994, Balaji Telefilms has shaped Indian popular culture with iconic television dramas like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and has amassed over 18,000 hours of television content and 45 films. Ekta Kapoor — known for revolutionizing Indian TV content — continues to be one of the most powerful voices in Indian media, alongside Netflix India’s content VP Monika Shergill, both of whom feature on the prestigious Variety500 list of global media leaders.
