March 8, 2025: On International Women’s Day, Nita Ambani, the founder-chairperson of Reliance Foundation, shared an inspiring message to women everywhere, encouraging them to prioritize their health and well-being. Through a heartfelt video, she took women on a journey into her daily fitness routine, showing that age is just a number when it comes to taking care of one’s body and mind.

In the video, Nita Ambani posed a question to women of all ages, urging them to reflect on the last time they did something solely for themselves. She said, “When is the last time you did something just for yourself, not for your family, not for your work, not for anyone else, just for you?” This thought-provoking statement encouraged women to put themselves first and recognize the importance of self-care.

With an emphasis on the need for health care as women age, Nita shared, “We as women put ourselves last. We are always needed somewhere else, and slowly, without even realizing it, we stop listening to our bodies. But here is the truth: if we don’t take care of ourselves, who will? It’s even more important in your 50s and 60s to focus on health and well-being. After the age of 30, women lose about 3-8% muscle mass… and this accelerates as we age.”

Nita Ambani elaborated on the physical changes women go through with age, including the loss of muscle mass, bone density, balance, mobility, strength, and metabolism. She emphasized that taking care of oneself, particularly after the age of 60, is vital in maintaining good health.

As a Bharatanatyam dancer, Nita has always had a strong focus on leg strength. She revealed that leg days are her favorite workout days. “I have strong legs of a dancer. I have been practicing Bharatanatyam since I was six years old,” she said. Nita combines her passion for dance with a variety of other fitness activities to maintain her well-being. “I work out 5-6 days a week, focusing on different parts of the body each day. Mobility, flexibility, yoga, and core-strengthening exercises are part of my daily routine. On some days, I add swimming and aqua exercises; other days, I enjoy an hour of dance.”

In addition to her structured fitness routine, Nita shared her love for walking when she’s traveling or if a gym isn’t available. “I do 5000-7000 steps. My diet is balanced. I am a vegetarian; my food is organic and nature-based. It is very important to take protein, and I absolutely avoid sugar and sugar substitutes.”

Nita emphasized the mental and emotional benefits of regular exercise, saying, “When I exercise, I find peace; it keeps me in a positive frame of mind the entire day. It releases endorphins, the happy hormones, and reduces stress. It’s not just about lifting weights; it’s about having the energy and stamina to cope with our daily lives.”

Her fitness journey, which includes keeping up with her grandchildren, isn’t about “fighting age,” but about embracing it with confidence. “It’s about owning it. If I can do it at 61, so can you. Take time out… when you are strong, you are unstoppable. So take that first step, choose to be unstoppable, join the StrongHERMovement… start today.”

On this International Women’s Day, Nita Ambani’s message resonates as a reminder to all women to focus on their health and make their well-being a priority. Whether it’s through fitness, self-care, or simply taking a moment to listen to their bodies, her journey proves that it’s never too late to start living a healthier life.
