February 27, 2025: Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog have been found dead at their New Mexico home, confirmed authorities. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza disclosed the news, stating that the deaths are under investigation, though there is no immediate indication of foul play. A search warrant is currently pending for further details on the cause of death.

Hackman, 95, was a legendary figure in Hollywood, with two Academy Awards to his name, for his roles in The French Connection and Unforgiven. He was also nominated five times for an Oscar, and won numerous other prestigious accolades, including two BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globes.

Hackman, whose remarkable career spanned decades, was known for iconic roles in films such as The Conversation and The Firm, among others. He moved to Santa Fe in 1990, where he lived after retiring from acting. Over the years, Hackman also became an author, penning several novels in collaboration with undersea archaeologist Daniel Lenihan, as well as a solo work.

Gene Hackman was married twice, first to Faye Maltese and later to Betsy Arakawa in 1991. Arakawa, a classical pianist, was his wife until their tragic passing.
