A resurfaced clip from India’s Got Latent Season 1 featuring comedian Samay Raina has sparked renewed controversy on social media, after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi criticised its content online. The video, which has been widely circulated on X, has now triggered a debate over context, timing, and selective outrage.
The clip in question shows a moment from a past episode featuring a panel of Madhur Virli, hip-hop duo Seedhe Maut (Calm and Encore ABJ), and stand-up comedian Kaustubh Agarwal. During the episode, an audience interaction escalates after a man allegedly responds inappropriately when questioned about a woman who had left the show midway due to a family medical emergency. Samay Raina is seen addressing the situation and urging sensitivity, but the clip has been interpreted differently by users online.
The controversy gained momentum after Priyanka Chaturvedi reacted to the viral video on X, criticising the content and alleging that such material promotes misogynistic humour. She also questioned platforms like Netflix India and YouTube for hosting such content, suggesting it reflects poorly on entertainment standards.
However, her remarks quickly drew backlash from social media users who pointed out that the clip was not recent but from Season 1 of the show. Many users accused her of misrepresenting the timeline and engaging in “engagement farming” by reacting to outdated content as if it were new.
Several users commented that the episode in question had already been widely discussed when it originally aired, and that changes had been made in later episodes following earlier controversies. Some also clarified that India’s Got Latent Season 1 episodes had been removed by Samay Raina following separate backlash over an unrelated incident.
One user wrote that the reaction came “too late” and urged public figures to verify context before making statements. Others defended the comedian, saying the clip was being taken out of context and that the show had already evolved after earlier criticism.
The debate highlights ongoing tensions around digital content, comedy boundaries, and the resurfacing of old clips in new political and social narratives.
Meanwhile, India’s Got Latent Season 2 has already begun streaming, featuring guests such as Alia Bhatt and Sharvari on Netflix and YouTube, continuing the show’s run amid renewed public scrutiny.
