Box office mastermind Rajkumar Hirani has officially debunked widespread industry rumors regarding an impending on-screen reunion with superstar Ranbir Kapoor.
Following the historic commercial success of their 2018 biographical drama Sanju, internet trade circles have been heavily buzzing with claims that the duo was quietly collaborating on a high-octane sports biopic based on the life of an iconic Indian athlete. Multiple speculative reports even went as far as asserting that the project had been pushed to a 2027 theatrical window due to complex scheduling conflicts and script re-drafts.

Speaking exclusively during a press junket for his upcoming digital venture, the Dunki director addressed the rumors with characteristic good humor. “No, I’m not making anything with Ranbir at the moment. But I would love to work with him again,” Hirani clarified. “I did read reports that we’re doing a film. Many a times, I look at newspapers and come to know of the films I’m making, which makes me wonder ki abb yeh kahan se aaya (where did this even come from)!”
“The scripts dictate the timeline, not market speculation. Both the 3 Idiots sequel and Munna Bhai 3 are officially in active writing stages right now, but they will only move to the sets when the pages are absolutely flawless.” — Rajkumar Hirani

The Logic of Perfect Casting in the Streaming Era
While a Ranbir Kapoor reunion is off the table for now, Hirani is heavily focusing his creative energy on a highly anticipated Dadasaheb Phalke biopic reportedly starring Aamir Khan, alongside the early development of his legacy franchises. However, his immediate priority remains his digital showrunning debut with Pritam And Pedro, a dynamic cyber-crime comedy series set to premiere on July 3 on JioHotstar. The long-format show serves as the formal acting debut of his son, Vir Hirani, who shares marquee space with Hirani’s long-term creative anchor, Arshad Warsi.
Addressing the seamless chemistry behind his project ensembles, Hirani dismissed the idea that veteran actors sign his projects blindly based on his brand name alone. He emphasized that even his closest collaborators, like Warsi, go through an objective character-fit evaluation. “When we wrote Pritam And Pedro, Arshad felt like the right fit. We’ve seen him as a cop in Sehar.
People sometimes feel he’s only good at doing comedies, but I know how good he’s at doing serious stuff too,” Hirani added. Warsi chimed in to highlight the filmmaker’s meticulous attention to detail, noting that in a classic Hirani production, even a character with two lines is carefully crafted to leave a lasting impact on the audience.
