During a candid chat, Ranbir Kapoor revealed how an actor friend fell in love with Anushka Sharma but was firmly placed in the friend zone.
January 6, 2025: The camaraderie between Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma during the promotions of their 2016 blockbuster Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was nothing short of delightful. Known for their playful banter and candid confessions, the duo shared a memorable moment during an interview with Mastiii Channel, where Ranbir spilled a light-hearted secret about Anushka.

In the conversation, Ranbir revealed that Anushka Sharma is the ‘champion of friend-zoning people’ and went on to share an intriguing story. According to him, one of their actor friends, who also shares the surname ‘Kapoor’, fell for Anushka but ended up being firmly friend-zoned.

“Accha, iske saath mujhe pata hai, jo acchi dosti dosti mein unko isse pyaar ho gaya hai. Aur unhone [Anushka] bola ki, ‘Nahi yaar, aisa kuch nahi, main dost hee hoon’ (I know someone who fell in love with her while being good friends. But she told him, ‘No, it’s nothing like that, we’re just friends)’,” said Ranbir with his signature charm.

He cheekily added, “Main sirf yeh bolunga ke uska bhi surname Kapoor hai (I’ll just say this — his surname is also Kapoor).”
Anushka’s Response
Anushka, taken aback by the reveal, quickly clarified her perspective. She explained how growing up in an army household shaped her approach to friendships.
“Main na army background se aati hoon actually. Toh kya hai ke hum log… Meri aisa hi nahi thi ki meri ladkiya hi friends thi. Hum log kitchen sets ke saath khelte the sirf aisa nahi tha. Toh hum log matlab… ladhko ke saath bhi khelte the (I come from an army background, and it wasn’t like I only had girlfriends. We played with both girls and boys, and I never viewed friendships through a gendered lens),” said Anushka.
Their Personal Lives
On the personal front, Anushka Sharma is now happily married to Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli. The couple tied the knot in a dreamy Italian ceremony in 2017 and are proud parents to daughter Vamika and son Akaay Kohli.
Ranbir Kapoor, on the other hand, is married to actress Alia Bhatt. The couple welcomed their daughter, Raha Kapoor, in 2022.
