Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor grabbed attention at the grand trailer launch of Ramayana: Part 1 in Delhi, not just for his regal appearance but also for wearing black sunglasses throughout the event.

Addressing the audience, the actor revealed that he was suffering from conjunctivitis, commonly known as “pink eye.” Apologising for the sunglasses, Ranbir quipped, “I’m sorry for wearing black sunglasses due to an eye infection. But I only have affection in my heart on this special occasion.”

Dressed in a black velvet bandhgala with a distinctive bow-shaped brooch symbolising Lord Ram’s dhanush, Ranbir looked every bit the part of the iconic character he portrays in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological film. However, his eyewear quickly became the highlight of the evening, prompting him to explain that he was dealing with an eye infection.

According to reports, Ranbir contracted conjunctivitis after his daughter, Raha Kapoor, was affected by the infection. As a precautionary measure and to prevent further spread, the actor opted to wear dark glasses during the high-profile promotional event.

Conjunctivitis, commonly referred to as pink eye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva—the thin, transparent membrane covering the white part of the eye and the inner eyelids. The condition is most often caused by viral infections, but bacterial infections, allergies, and other irritants can also trigger it. It is considered highly contagious in viral and bacterial cases, making proper hygiene and early treatment essential.

Medical experts say the most common symptoms include redness in one or both eyes, itching, excessive tearing, a gritty sensation, sticky discharge that can cause crusting around the eyelids, and sensitivity to light. While conjunctivitis usually resolves without causing long-term vision problems, persistent discomfort, severe pain, or blurred vision should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Ranbir’s candid revelation has also raised awareness about the importance of recognising the symptoms of conjunctivitis and taking precautions to prevent its spread, especially during the ongoing promotional tour for Ramayana: Part 1.
