Actor Ranbir Kapoor has shared an emotional personal milestone connected to his upcoming magnum opus Ramayana, revealing that the film will be the first movie his daughter, Raha Kapoor, watches in a theatre. The actor said the project has become even more meaningful for him as he looks forward to introducing his three-year-old daughter to the magic of cinema through the mythological epic.
Ranbir made the heartfelt revelation during the Ramayana panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where he was joined by co-star Yash, director Nitesh Tiwari, and producer Namit Malhotra. The team unveiled new updates about the ambitious two-part adaptation, which is slated for a grand theatrical release during Diwali 2026.

During an interactive question-and-answer session, a fan spoke about wanting their children to learn more about Indian mythology and cultural heritage through Ramayana. Responding to the comment, Ranbir shared that he too is excited to experience the film alongside his daughter, saying it will be Raha’s first-ever visit to a movie theatre.
“I’m very excited to take my daughter to the film. It is going to be her first film on the big screen,” Ranbir said, highlighting the emotional significance the project holds for his family beyond its cinematic scale.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features an impressive ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The film also stars Ravie Dubey, Arun Govil, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Vivek Oberoi, and several other prominent actors in pivotal roles.
Positioned as one of the most ambitious Indian films ever produced, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part cinematic spectacle featuring large-scale visual effects and an extensive global release strategy aimed at reaching international audiences.
Meanwhile, fans eager for the film’s first glimpse will have to wait a little longer. The makers recently postponed the trailer launch, which had initially been scheduled for July 24. Producer Namit Malhotra explained that the delay followed Sony Pictures Entertainment joining the project as the film’s international distribution partner.
According to Malhotra, the collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment is expected to give Ramayana a worldwide release on the scale of a major Hollywood production, ensuring the epic reaches audiences across the globe with unprecedented reach and presentation.
With anticipation continuing to grow, Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the biggest Indian cinematic events of 2026, while also becoming a cherished personal milestone for Ranbir Kapoor as he prepares to share the big-screen experience with his daughter for the very first time.
