Capcom appears to be expanding its successful Resident Evil remake series. After the massive success of the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4, several more classic titles are reportedly being reimagined for modern platforms.
Although the company has officially announced only one new remake so far, fresh reports suggest that multiple Resident Evil projects are currently in development.
Resident Evil 1 Remake Reportedly in Pre-Production
According to well-known Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, a remake of the original Resident Evil entered its pre-production stage around August or September 2025.
The insider shared the update while responding to fans on X (formerly Twitter). He claimed that the project has been in its early development phase for nearly a year.
However, Capcom has not officially confirmed the existence of the Resident Evil 1 remake. Therefore, fans should treat the report as a rumour until the company makes a formal announcement.
Full Development May Begin After Code Veronica
The report also claims that Capcom is currently focusing on Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
According to Dusk Golem, the game has entered its “crunch” phase, which usually refers to the final stretch of development when teams work intensively to prepare a game for launch.
Once development on Code Veronica is completed, Capcom is expected to shift more resources towards the Resident Evil 1 remake.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica Officially Announced
Unlike the reported Resident Evil 1 remake, Resident Evil: Code Veronica has already been confirmed by Capcom.
The company officially revealed the remake during Summer Game Fest 2026. The survival horror title is currently scheduled to launch in 2027.
The announcement generated excitement among longtime fans, as Code Veronica is considered one of the franchise’s most popular classic entries.
Resident Evil Zero Remake Also Reportedly in Development
The latest claims also include an update on Resident Evil Zero.
According to Dusk Golem, the remake of Resident Evil Zero entered full production in late 2022. Earlier reports had also suggested that Capcom was working on a modern version of the 2002 prequel.
Even so, Capcom has not officially confirmed the project. As a result, fans will have to wait for further announcements.
Capcom Continues to Invest in Resident Evil
The Resident Evil franchise has enjoyed renewed popularity over the past few years. The remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 received strong reviews and achieved impressive commercial success.
Meanwhile, Capcom is also developing Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline game in the series.
The original Resident Evil first launched in 1996 and introduced players to the survival horror franchise that later became one of gaming’s biggest brands. The game previously received a remake in 2002, which remains highly regarded among fans.
If the latest reports prove accurate, Capcom could soon bring another modern version of the iconic title to a new generation of players.
