Sami Zayn is set to defend the WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes on this week’s episode of WWE Raw in Chicago.
The title match was officially confirmed after Cody Rhodes defeated Jey Uso in the main event of WWE SmackDown, earning the right to challenge Zayn for the championship.
Sami Zayn Celebrates Historic WWE Championship Win
SmackDown opened with Sami Zayn addressing the WWE Universe for the first time since capturing the WWE Championship at Night of Champions.
Zayn shocked fans by defeating both Cody Rhodes and Gunther to win the title, pinning Rhodes in the process. The victory made him WWE Champion for the first time in his career.
During his emotional promo, Zayn reflected on his achievements and reminded everyone that no one could ever take away the fact that he is now a WWE Champion, a Grand Slam Champion, and a WrestleMania main-eventer.
Cody Rhodes Interrupts the Celebration
Soon after, Cody Rhodes made his entrance and congratulated Sami Zayn on his championship victory.
However, Zayn quickly questioned Rhodes about why he had come to the ring.
Before Rhodes could respond, Jey Uso interrupted the segment and declared that he wanted the WWE Championship. He said he intended to bring the title back to The Bloodline.
Heated Exchange Leads to Major Announcement
Rhodes reminded Uso that he was there to discuss his championship rematch. He also took a shot at Uso by accusing him of once again doing Roman Reigns’ bidding.
Meanwhile, Sami Zayn became frustrated with both men and told them to stay away from him.
The confrontation was interrupted by Acting General Manager Adam Pearce, who stepped in to settle the situation.
Pearce announced that Zayn would not decide his next challenger. Instead, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso would compete later in the night in a No. 1 Contender’s Match. The winner would earn a WWE Championship opportunity on Raw.

Rhodes emerged victorious, securing the No. 1 contender’s spot and officially booking a WWE Championship match against Sami Zayn on Monday Night Raw.
