The television industry continues to reel from the tragic passing of 22-year-old Kumkum Bhagya actress Sanchita Ugale, who died by suicide at her residence in Palghar’s Nalasopara area on June 14. While the official investigation is underway, Sanchita’s close friend and fellow actress Indraxi Kanjilal has made explosive allegations against Sanchita’s Saajan Ghar co-star, Ujwal Sharma. Indraxi claims that the late actress suffered severe mental harassment at the hands of Ujwal, who played her on-screen partner in the television serial.
According to Indraxi, the friction between the co-stars intensified after Ujwal borrowed money from Sanchita. When Sanchita requested that the loan be repaid, Ujwal allegedly retaliated with hostility and aggression. Indraxi stated that he lashed out, humiliated Sanchita, and even threatened physical violence, adding that she possesses screenshots of text conversations verifying the inappropriate language and insults directed at the late actress. Furthermore, Indraxi revealed that Sanchita had officially reported the toxic workspace environment to the show’s higher-ups, but ultimately decided to walk away from Saajan Ghar when she realized no corrective action would be taken.
Indraxi also fiercely rebuked Ujwal’s public statements, in which he claimed Sanchita’s emotional distress stemmed from a difficult past romantic relationship. Expressing that she was “appalled” by his remarks, Indraxi questioned why Ujwal was deflecting blame toward her personal life rather than addressing the workplace trauma he allegedly inflicted upon her. Having known Sanchita for a long time, Indraxi firmly maintained that the actress was neither depressed nor impacted by an ex-boyfriend, arguing that Ujwal was never close enough to Sanchita to speak authoritatively on her private matters.
In the wake of these distressing developments, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has issued an official press note demanding a high-level, thorough investigation into Sanchita’s death to uncover the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.
