May 7, 2025: Film AlUla, the film commission overseeing northwest Saudi Arabia’s cinematic ambitions, has entered a landmark partnership with The MBS Group, the global studio operator behind major productions including James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. Under this new agreement, The MBS Group will manage and operate the cutting-edge AlUla Studios, marking the company’s first operational expansion into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The deal will be executed via MBS MENA Limited, a newly launched regional arm of the MBS Group. Together with Film AlUla, it will oversee all studio operations—ensuring high occupancy rates, streamlined production scheduling, and efficient leasing for both international and domestic film projects.
This partnership is poised to transform AlUla into a premier global production hub. The studio complex boasts two expansive soundstages, each covering 25,828 square feet, alongside a dedicated backlot and full suite of production support buildings. The facilities also include a world-class recording studio capable of hosting a 32-piece orchestra, along with rehearsal spaces, offices, and areas designed for industry events.
Film AlUla and MBS Group emphasized that this collaboration will not only attract top-tier global productions but will also help scale local infrastructure. The plan includes the eventual integration of next-gen production capabilities such as volumetric stages and virtual production technologies, keeping AlUla Studios at the forefront of cinematic innovation.
