The next chapter in the hugely successful Scam franchise is reportedly moving closer to production. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is said to be preparing for Scam 2010 – The Subrata Roy Saga, the third instalment in the acclaimed SonyLIV series that previously explored some of India’s biggest financial scandals.

According to recent reports, the upcoming season will focus on the dramatic rise and fall of late Sahara India chief Subrata Roy and the massive financial controversy surrounding the Sahara Group. After months of research and development, production on the series is reportedly expected to begin soon.

Siddharth Bodke To Play Subrata Roy

As per a report by Pinkvilla, actor Siddharth Bodke has been chosen to portray Subrata Roy in the series. While the makers are yet to officially confirm the casting, the report stated that Bodke has already undergone extensive preparation for the role.

Quoting a source familiar with the development, the publication said, “Makers have been quietly prepping for the show over the last few months, with extensive research to scale the story on the Sahara saga.”

The Scam franchise has earned critical acclaim over the years for combining gripping storytelling with real-life financial scandals. The first season, Scam 1992, chronicled the Harshad Mehta stock market scam, while Scam 2003 focused on the Telgi fake stamp paper scam.

Based On The Sahara India Controversy

Hansal Mehta had confirmed in 2024 that the next instalment of the franchise would revolve around Subrata Roy and the Sahara India case.

The upcoming series is based on journalist and author Tamal Bandyopadhyay’s book Sahara: The Untold Story. The project is being produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Studio Next.

Subrata Roy was once regarded as one of India’s most powerful businessmen, building Sahara India into a sprawling business empire with interests across sectors. However, the group later became embroiled in allegations related to investor funds and financial irregularities.

Roy was arrested in 2014 following prolonged legal proceedings connected to the case. Even years later, the controversy continues to have financial implications, with reports suggesting nearly Rs 25,000 crore linked to the matter remains unclaimed with government agencies.

Hansal Mehta’s Other Upcoming Project

Apart from Scam 2010, Hansal Mehta is also associated with an upcoming post-apocalyptic zombie thriller starring Ranveer Singh. The film will reportedly be directed by his son Jai Mehta and produced under the banner of True Story Films.

Reports suggest the survival drama could go on floors in August 2026. Actor Kalyani Priyadarshan is also expected to make her Hindi film debut with the project.
