The entertainment industry was left stunned on June 27, 2025, when model and reality television star Shefali Jariwala — popularly known as the “Kaanta Laga girl” — died unexpectedly at the age of 42. A year later, while tributes continue to pour in for the late actor, the mystery surrounding her sudden death remains unresolved, with no definitive medical conclusion made public.

Her passing triggered widespread speculation, intrusive media attention, debates over beauty treatments, and criticism of insensitive paparazzi coverage. What followed became one of the most controversial celebrity death narratives in recent years.

The Night That Shocked Everyone

On the night of June 27, 2025, Shefali Jariwala was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Mumbai by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.

While early reports suggested cardiac arrest, the exact cause of death has never been officially confirmed.

Her last rites were performed the following day at Mumbai’s Oshiwara crematorium.

According to initial medical observations, her death was reportedly linked to low blood pressure, cardiac arrest and a severe gastric condition. A postmortem examination was conducted at Mumbai’s Cooper Hospital, with the procedure recorded on video. However, despite the investigation, no conclusive cause has been publicly established.

Anti-Ageing Treatment Claims Spark Debate

As investigations progressed, reports emerged suggesting that Shefali had been undergoing anti-ageing treatments and vitamin IV therapy.

Close friend Pooja Ghai later clarified that Shefali had received a Vitamin C IV drip on the day of her death, calling it a routine wellness treatment.

“She did take the Vitamin C IV drip, but it’s a very normal thing. Many people take Vitamin C after Covid. Some consume tablets while others opt for IV therapy,” Pooja explained, adding that police had questioned the person who administered the drip as part of the investigation.

Investigators reportedly found glutathione injections, Vitamin C supplements and acidity medication at Shefali’s residence. Sources claimed she had been taking anti-ageing medication prescribed by doctors for nearly seven to eight years.

Medical experts, however, urged caution before drawing conclusions.

Cardiologist Dr Rahul Chawla told NDTV that while glutathione and detox drips can potentially cause cardiac rhythm abnormalities, low blood pressure and other complications, there was no scientific basis to directly connect Shefali’s death with those treatments without definitive medical evidence.

Beauty Standards Under Scrutiny

The reports surrounding Shefali’s wellness treatments reignited discussions about the immense pressure women in the entertainment industry face to maintain youthful appearances.

Several actors and public figures reflected on the increasing popularity of cosmetic wellness therapies and stressed that any such treatment should only be undertaken under proper medical supervision.

Actor Gul Panag described the news as deeply unsettling.

“We are chasing quick fixes instead of resilience,” she said, adding that society, particularly the entertainment industry, often places unrealistic expectations on physical appearance.

Television host Mini Mathur echoed similar concerns, saying she would not speculate on the cause of death without official medical confirmation.

“There is nothing wrong with taking supplements if they are medically supervised. What is important is professional guidance because every treatment can have side effects,” she said.

Paparazzi Coverage Faces Backlash

Beyond the medical speculation, the media’s handling of Shefali’s death also attracted widespread criticism.

Paparazzi photographers followed grieving family members, including Parag Tyagi, even during deeply personal moments.

One viral video showed Parag walking the couple’s pet dog a day after Shefali’s death, prompting insensitive comments online suggesting he had “moved on” too quickly.

Another clip captured Parag pleading with photographers to stop turning his personal tragedy into public entertainment.

Several celebrities, including Paras Chhabra, Himanshi Khurana, Rashami Desai, Tina Datta and Varun Dhawan, condemned the invasive coverage and called for greater sensitivity.

Global star Priyanka Chopra also paid tribute to Shefali, writing, “So shook. She was too young. Sending condolences to Parag and the family.”

‘Kaanta Laga’ Team Urges People To Stop Speculating

Shefali became an overnight sensation after featuring in the iconic remix video Kaanta Laga, directed by Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao.

Reflecting on the controversy surrounding her death, Vinay Sapru urged people to stop spreading conspiracy theories.

He compared the public reaction to other celebrity deaths, saying that whenever a successful public figure dies unexpectedly, speculation inevitably follows.

“Death is God’s decision. We should honour the memories of the person rather than creating theories,” he said.

Investigation Left Several Questions Unanswered

Police questioned multiple people following Shefali’s death, including husband Parag Tyagi, household staff and the security guard of the residential complex.

The security guard recalled that Shefali was taken to hospital around 10:30 pm and that Parag had arrived home earlier that evening.

After she was taken to hospital, forensic teams and police officers reached the residence to conduct investigations.

Authorities eventually registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). Tissue and viscera samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina for chemical analysis, particularly to examine whether fasting combined with medication could have contributed to her death.

However, the final forensic findings have never been publicly disclosed.

Parag Tyagi Breaks His Silence

Months after the tragedy, Parag Tyagi publicly rejected several reports regarding Shefali’s medical history.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he clarified that the IV therapy she received consisted of multivitamins, Vitamin C, collagen and glutathione.

“People are calling them anti-ageing medicines. These were simply supplements given through IV because Shefali often forgot to take tablets,” he explained.

He also dismissed reports suggesting she had been fasting throughout the day, stating that she had eaten after performing a religious ceremony.

Parag credited Shefali’s youthful appearance to years of discipline, healthy eating and fitness rather than cosmetic shortcuts.

Over the past year, he has continued sharing emotional tributes on social media, posting memories of their life together and even getting a permanent portrait of Shefali tattooed on his chest on what would have been their 15th wedding anniversary.

One Year Later, Closure Remains Elusive

Twelve months after Shefali Jariwala’s untimely death, many questions remain unanswered.

While public speculation has continued, no official medical report has conclusively established the cause of her death. For her family and loved ones, the absence of clear answers has made closure even more difficult.

As fans remember the woman who became a pop culture icon through Kaanta Laga and later reality television, perhaps the most meaningful tribute is to honour her life rather than dwell on theories that remain unproven.
