From lukewarm water to ghee with lunch, the Bollywood star shares her holistic fitness mantra built on balance, Ayurvedic practices, and mindful eating.
June-8: As Shilpa Shetty celebrates her 50th birthday on June 8, the actor and wellness advocate appears to be aging in reverse — a feat she attributes not to strict dieting, but to balanced living, consistent routines, and clean eating.
In a detailed interview originally given in 2018 and still relevant today, Shilpa opened up about her morning rituals, her love for traditional Indian ingredients like ghee and coconut milk, and her disdain for fad diets.
Morning Rituals & Ayurvedic Touch
Shilpa starts her day with a glass and a half of lukewarm water, followed by four drops of noni juice, an energy-boosting supplement. She also practices oil pulling — an ancient Ayurvedic detox method — using a tablespoon of coconut oil swished for about five minutes.
“I never skip breakfast,” she said. “A mix of muesli, fresh fruits, almond milk, or eggs makes for my go-to meal. I avoid bread and get my fiber from natural sources.”
The Ghee Secret
“Ghee is a staple with my lunch,” she says, busting myths that fats like ghee or bananas make you fat. “It actually helps with skin elasticity and satiety.” Shilpa also swears by coconut milk as a healthy, lactose-free energy source.
Her go-to carb? Brown rice. She believes rotating between low-carb and no-carb days helps balance body needs without extreme dieting.

Balanced Snacking, Early Dinners
While Shilpa admits she’s “eating all the time,” her focus is on wholesome, clean food. In the evenings, she often opts for clear soups or eggs with dry fruits, avoiding heavy carbs after sunset.
Even when socializing, she ensures dinner is done by 7:30 PM — a habit she says plays a crucial role in weight maintenance and better digestion.
Fitness with Flexibility
The actor, known for her yoga discipline and compound workouts, believes consistency, not punishment, is the secret. “I don’t advocate dieting. I advocate conscious eating,” she asserts.
